Send a medic!

We may not be down like the Kaufmans have been, but - I've still got a miserable cold and Abby's little foot sore has warranted the big...blue...CONE...Not to mention Dad's still in hospital up in Canada with 5 broken ribs. It must be moonwobble for the Tanswell family.

(Despite the inconvenience, Abby is thrilled with her new Halloween costume - The Blue Daisy.)

So much free time!

What does this recent college grad do with all her (new) free time?

1. splurge on iPhone spending countless hours trying to get it to work (why can't I get ring tones from iTunes to sync to iPhone??)
2. renew library card, go through back issues of People magazine looking for critics' choices and search library for titles (got 2 yesterday).
3. make as many lunch dates as possible.
4. buy TV stand for new tv and rearrange furniture.
5. do some deep thinking about one's future...and play online backgammon.
6. get a stinking head cold and sit around miserable.

Labor Day Weekend

What a fun weekend I had! Besides it being a long weekend, Mahmuda and Emmanule (M & Em) were in town from Switzerland. They stayed in town for the weekend in the middle of their vacation and Rich and I were able to spend time with them, which was just terrific, even though freakishly hot weather was affecting everyone. So here's a breakdown with pics:

Saturday:
M & Em stayed at a hotel in West Hollywood which is "way gay" (W Hollywood, not the hotel). Before heading out, I got my wonderful souvenir- check it out...(what can I say, Mahmuda - FANTASTIC choice! :)"

The caption on mug reads "Give me a Jooodler"

Then we headed off to Starbucks to start catching up. Of course I knew they'd all get on like a house on fire with Rich and I was once again correct. We chatted, laughed, told stories and made plans for the evening.

M and I had talked about going to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery to see Whatever Happened to Baby Jane before they even came to the States and we decided, despite the ghastly hot weather, to get a picnic and go. We had such a great time. Candles, picnic, great company and a truly entertaining movie. One of highlights of my summer, that's for sure.

Sunday:

Sunday's plan was to relax during the day doing our own thing and meet up for a dinner on Sunset Strip or one of those trendy, star-watching places. They lazed by their pool while Rich and I lazed watching the US Open. It hit my nap-time (around 3.30) when we commented to each other that the AC didn't seem to be cranking out very cool air. Seeing as it was over 100 degrees in Hollywood, the AC had been on non-stop. Sure enough, the AC in the entire building had gone out. Rich went out to secure another fan while I, not to be deterred from my afternoon nap, placed the existing fan to blow right on me and I zonked out for a bit. What can I say? The heat really takes it out of you - even Rich fell asleep on the couch which is a rare occurrence.

The heat was taking its toll on M & Em as well. We decided to forgo the big dinner on Sunset and instead go somewhere local to them. This meant walking, but seeing as their hotel was quite central to the (gay) action, it was no big deal. The reason I keep mentioning the "way-gayness" is because it became a central theme for the evening!

Rich and I were standing outside the hotel, on the sidewalk, before it was even busy waiting on M & Em. A guy and a girl walked by and the guy simply helped himself to my boyfriend! He groped Rich's behind, squeezing it as he walked by. I missed the actual incident but heard Rich say, "Oh, thank you" (he's polite even in the case of being publicly molested!).

Once M & Em came down (and we relayed the story, laughing incredulously) we headed to a bar that M & Em had read about in their trendy guide book. Dripping with sweat as we arrived, it was THE place in West Hollywood (or WEHO as locals call it). Male go-go dancers, lots of groups partying, lots of gay men (I would say "all" but there were lesbians there too as well as our precious two heterosexual boyfriends). There we met up with Ryan, who had befriended M & Em at the hotel where he was also staying. He exclaimed upon meeting us how gorgeous Rich was. I'd say we were surprised but we weren't - this happens surprisingly often to Rich! He bought us a round of shots to celebrate his birthday and his fabulous make-up job (alright, not that last part but we thought his make-up was fabulous). Rich had his and my shots and we took some photos. He was groped again, this time by his number one fan, Ryan! The picture of all of us shows Rich with his hand on my arm. What you can't see in the picture is him pleading under voice through his smile "h-h-h-help me." Ryan's in the background of the picture, what great eyebrows, too! Before we left, Em got manhandled by someone, so at least he and Rich had experienced the same thrill, uh, I mean, humiliation. No bueno!

After that round, we headed to a restaurant we had walked by. We enjoyed dinner with lots of laughing and talking. Em and Rich sampled the different types of martinis available. Aren't they a cute couple?

Peach and Sour Apple

We had dessert at YogurtBerry, is it a total rip off of PinkBerry or the same? We just didn't know.

The next morning (yesterday) M & Em rented a car to drive up the coast a bit. They'll be back Thursday evening where they will stay with me here in Redondo Beach before flying back Friday morning (boo to them having to leave!) Thankfully the AC was back working when we got back to Rich's, further crisis averted!

Monday:

The special thing of noteworthiness of Monday is unrelated to M & Em but rather my mom. When I got back from Hollywood, Mom offered me an awesome graduation present - a new 40" LCD TV! So we went and picked it out. The US Open was playing on it so I could really see the quality:

I'll go by Ikea this week to get a good table/stand for it and then it'll be hooked up Friday afternoon! All this and I technically haven't even finished my last class yet. LOVE the faith she has in me that I'll make it! I'm almost there, one week left!!!

So it was a great weekend - I felt so fulfilled with my friends and boyfriend. I bitched about the heat constantly (didn't we all) but apart from that, it was all EXCELLENT!
