June 23, 2007

Emus and kangaroos cannot walk backwards (I love the Diet Peach Snapple; if you have never read the cap on one, I'm sorry for all the trivial facts you are missing out on).

All is well in sunny Redondo Beach and in flux. Homes, careers, school, choices of accessories to wear on any given day...many of these are up in the air and changeable each day.

Rich and I are season ticket holders to Los Angeles Galaxy as I have mentioned before. We went to our first match last Sunday and had a good time; Galaxy beat Real Salt Lake, as in "Ree-ALL" Salt Lake (a la Beckham's Real Madrid) 3-2. We didn't get hit by any balls, though I did have a couple flying balls at my face (insert joke here). I managed to deflect one like a pro after which the match was much more exciting for us not knowing if we'd be battered by more flying (soccer) balls.

Rich's condo is going through so he'll be moving next weekend. His mom's in town this week coincidentally so is helping him pack. Tonight Rich and his mom are driving down here to have dinner with my mother and I. Yes, the mothers are meeting (no announcements are pending, it's just good timing for them to meet tonight).

And here's what you've all been waiting for, my summer TV thoughts:

  • Pirate Master is a joke, a bad, bad joke. Hate it. Awful.
  • Top Chef and Hell's Kitchen - enjoy both of them, Top Chef for the dishes and cooking, Hell's Kitchen for non stop verbal abuse (what's up with Aaron, the casting director must've thought he'd be pitiful and make for great TV - how right she was!
  • Entourage - (shrugging shoulders), not all that any more.
  • Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List - this chick cracks me up though it was touching when her father passed in this week's episode.
  • Intervention - I'd like it more if they all ended happily (and I knew that when sitting down to watch)
  • Big Love - never look forward to watching it but am always totally into it once I start.
  • Rescue Me - man oh man is this show AWESOME!
  • Forensic Files - record every one and have a Forensic Files marathon Friday evenings - fascinating!
  • The Daily Show with Jon Stewart - a winner no matter what season!
Not sure if I'm looking forward to Big Brother...I really enjoyed the all stars last season though!

this and that

UPDATE: We got a new place, here is a picture of it (blurry as it was taken from cell phone). It's really pretty and we're looking forward to it!

  • Rich and a group of his friends and I went and saw a play this past weekend, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. It was really funny and entertaining. I volunteered to be among those chosen to participate (they choose 4 audience members to be in the Bee). I guess my "hook" wasn't good enough and I wasn't chosen but at least I went for it! In the end it was better to be in the audience enjoying it than to be on-stage wondering if I looked fat. :) We all went for lunch/dinner after where I got Rich a $40 parking ticket (I sent off the payment today, my dear).
  • Our landlord here is selling this place, where we've lived for like 6 years (well Mom the entire time, me most of the time apart from the 1 year in the shoe box in nearby Torrance). So we've been looking through all the online rental sites over and over. We saw something yesterday that we really liked which is also in the area and blocks from the water and near coffee shops (my two requirements). We're moving forward with it so we'll see what happens. I did order a crap-load of moving supplies (can you say "impulsive"?) so we have lots of boxes and labels for when we do need to start sorting and packing.
  • In other housing news, Rich is closing on his new place (which is in Hollywood. ) So instead of driving to Santa Monica to see him, I'll be hiking up to West Hollywood. But his place is pretty luxurious and hopefully Rich will get furniture to match. You know, I do like to be surrounded by luxury. Thankfully with summer coming his condo has A/C (unlike his current place). The move is probably going to be end of the month and mom and I might be doing our own a couple weeks later! We will see!
  • Rich and I got season tickets to LA Galaxy (soccer). And no, it's not because David Beckham is part of the galaxy...it's just because Rich likes soccer and I'm just up for doing new things and having new interests. I think we need to start learning about the players but Rich maintains he will not be cheering FOR Los Angeles but against them. I wonder if American soccer fans are as..."passionate" as European football fans. I hope not otherwise we may find the games a tad uncomfortable!

How's this for marketing?

In a store down in Riviera village that I walk by, the sign in the window makes me laugh every time:

UNATTENDED CHILDREN
WILL BE GIVEN FREE ESPRESSO AND A PUPPY.

Knocked Up

Got your attention? Well, no worries - I'm NOT knocked up...

But Rich and I had a lovely date last night that deserves blogging. Any time I hang with my boyfriend is fun, but last night just seemed perfect!

He drove down to my neck of the woods. We drove up the hill and had a lovely dinner with good food and great conversation! We got to the movies in perfect time to see Knocked Up. It was really funny (can't wait for Kelly and Jon to see it!). We didn't eat snacks at the movie so afterward I had a sweet tooth. We happened upon a really swanky but intimate Italian restaurant who were happy to seat us to have coffee and dessert. We shared rich coffee and a richer warm chocolate cake. Perfect! We then put the top of his car down (turned on the heater though as it was a tad chilly) and took the long way back to my place with views of the Pacific (too foggy to see but we knew it was there!) and the lights of the bay around Los Angeles all the way to Malibu. Sweet kiss good night and the end of our lovely evening was over...until I got a call from Rich at midnight saying the papers for his new condo had been signed and he's a HOMEOWNER!!!! He'll be moving to his new, luxurious pad at the end of this month!

So a lovely evening topped off with exciting news. All is well!

Oh and I'm doing well, too. :)
