1 of 4 DMB

Last night was the first of 4 DMB concerts. This performance was in Irvine, which is about an hour's drive or so from my house (if there's no traffic). The concert was scheduled to start at 7, though DMB was probably going to start a bit later. I was delighted that Kelly was coming with me. Here's a timeline:
3:00 - pick Kelly up at Pictage
3:05 - begin the slow snaking onto the 405 south.
3:45 - having travelled just a few miles, even in the carpool lane, we prepare ourselves for a long-ass drive.
4:00 - realize that we have to pee really badly but it would mean crossing 5 lanes and finding a place. Determined to hold it.
4:10 - finally pass accident that was holding up (and of course slow down so we can have our own look).
4:15 - traffic's lighter and we're flying! Bathroom is just a little ways away.
4:30 - arrive at destination.
4:31 - wonder what we will do now that we have hours to kill
5:00 - stop for a nice dinner at Louie Ling's Asian Grill or something like that.
6:00 - though Target is nearby, decide not to shop and instead go to the concert

6:30 - in seats and people watching begins
7:00 - three people/couples have caught our eye:
  • combover guy. looking like Mike Ditka with a tan, this big guy had a feathered combover that started at the top of his left ear and combed up and over to stop in the middle of his head. Donald Trump move over.
  • berkley geeks. This couple kind of looked like Berkley types. They sat down as early as we did but while we scanned the crowd and judged everyone, the woman in this couple played her game boy. The entire time.
  • young drunken couple. She had sat in gum (not sure if she knew, it was on the back of her white sundress), he was acting like Kevin Federline. Their arms flailed as they joked, hugged, bit each other. At one stage the biting went too far and Tyler (as we later overhear) got 5 drunken slaps upside the head along with a Chill out, Tyler!.
7:15 - opening act takes the stage. We enjoy watching the singer's little sister work the stage (we don't think he said her name so we named her LaShiniqua).
7:45 - bathroom break - saw a sort of attractive She-man in line.
8:30 - Dave Matthews Band takes the stage. Opened up with Rapunzel

8:31 - we are clearly impressed - Dave's been working out. POW!
9:30 - where has the time gone?
10:00 - bathroom break. LONG lines. We're so tired. We decide to forgo the encore and start making our way home.
10:15 - where's Kelly? She's busy reading (aloud) all the great info we have on the new condoms we got from all the promoters - it was like jewels rained down from the heavens.
10:30 - get to car with hands and purses overfilling with condoms (hey, we're positive thinkers!)
10:45 - hit Burger King for bathrooms and some disgusting, greasy food. eat all of it.
11:30 - walk in the door and excited to know there are 3 more concerts I am going to! Hollywood Bowl on Monday, baby!

One-hit wonders in the ghetto...

You Light Up My Life
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night!
Relax!
Tender Love.

These classics are just a selection of the lovely tunes playing at Velocity Cafe in Santa Monica, CA. Or is the ghetto? I'm not sure. Apparently rents are up at the $2000/month rate; there are liquor stores every 5 buildings and all sorts of unsavory characters. However, I am writing this post safe and sound sipping on iced coffee and working on a borrowed laptop (thanks, Rich!) The plan is to do some homework- that's always the plan anyway. But a couple that works weekends together stays together - or so I hope! Rich will hate me posting this picture taken off my camera phone - but I just wanted to capture the moment as he feverishly works away and I sit here singing Debbie Boone and checking the gottriplets blog. Back to homework, some consumer behavior simulation. Remember, the goal is to pass and a D is a passing grade! Wish me luck!

I just drove to Phoenix and back!

Okay, not really. But I put over 500 miles on my car in just 1 week. I'm not complaining but just kind of trying to absorb how much driving time I'm doing for work. Much of my new territory is Ventura County and unfortunately we have little to no data on businesses there so it involves a lot of cold-calling in person. At least when you go into a business people are nicer to you than if you try to telephone and get info. Besides, when I go into these businesses, I'm not trying to sell coffee right then (I don't whip open my trench coat to display coffee packets on the inner lining!), but just get some info (who the decision-maker is, what they do for their office coffee etc.).

I passed my last class with a strong and absolutely welcomed C; had one brief week off and am now studying "Consumer Behavior". The good news is that I can hopefully recycle some past papers with a few changes. All of it is, after all, marketing!

It's summer time and you know what that means! Dave Matthews Band tour season is here! Luckily for me, the tickets go on sale in March which is when my birthday is so I can ask for tickets for my birthday every year! There are dates in Los Angeles on the 26th and 28th (August 28th is at the Hollywood Bowl - and it'll be my first time there) of this month and then 2 dates up in northern California the following weekend (these are the ones I have tickets for - these four shows)! I'm so looking forward to them!

What a Devine weekend.

What a fun weekend! Went to dinner, had drinks, spent time with great friends and special people. It was fun and actually quite Devine!
